The M Resort, an off-the-Strip casino in Las Vegas, has closed its 14-table poker room to make way for a slot machine tournament area, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday.

Slot tournaments at the casino were previously held in a conference-style ballroom and attracted on average 800 players, according to Vegas Inc. The space reportedly was too small.
M Resort is owned by Penn National Gaming.
The move comes just a couple months after the casino held the $2,500 buy-in Hollywood Poker Open Championship event, which featured a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000.
That event, which was held in a convention center space, drew a massive field of 631 players, creating a $1,423,062 prize pool. The guarantee was shattered.
The final table was stacked with pros such as Ben Palmer, Scott Schwalich, Max Greenwood, Sam Stein, Ramzi Jelassi, Kory Kilpatrick and Ryan Tepen, but it was Ana Marquez, a poker pro from Malaga, Spain, who took the title. She said after the victory:
“I can’t believe I won. Everything was super perfect. [The players] really liked the M. Everything was run very well. We hope they do more in the future.”

Despite the closing of the poker room, M Resort still plans to hold another Hollywood Poker Open Championship next year at the same time.
