Thank you Daniel for our very first question. I (Iggy) try to visit Vegas at least once a year and I’m a very big fan of The Orleans. A couple of miles off the strip, in my view it’s the best place to play Omaha hi lo poker in Vegas. If you play at the Orleans then you can expect friendly dealers who know the game inside out, a great tournament structure and round the clock Omaha 8 cash games (usually played at $4/$8). There are also twice weekly 08 and a weekly HORSE tournament. See here for the latest tournament schedule.
I also rate The Venetian very highly. One of the most popular poker rooms on the strip, the venue is plush, the dealers high quality and the choice of games varied. Most days you can find $4/8 and $8/16 cash games running. On weekends the game may play up to $30/60. The only thing it lacks in my view is a regular 08 tournament.

Omaha Poker is one of the most entertaining varieties of poker. It has been derived from Texas Hold’em and is usually the next type of poker players want to learn once they have mastered Texas Hold’em.

The Omaha rules are not at all complicated and are similar to that of Texas Hold’em, so you can quickly learn how to play Omaha Poker. First, Omaha Poker can be played by two to 10 players at the same time. The dealer distributes four private cards, otherwise known as hole cards, to each player at the table.
Another five community, or shared cards, are dealt face up on the “board,” and all players can use them to make the best possible poker hand combination. In Omaha Poker, players need to use precisely three community cards with two of their hole cards to make the best possible five-card poker hand. It is important to note that it is absolutely necessary to use two hole and three community cards, no more and no less.

Types of Omaha Poker
As we’ve mentioned before, the rules of Omaha are relatively simple. Each player is dealt four cards face down, two more than you would see in Texas Hold’em. Also, there are five community cards placed on the board for all players to use. All poker card combinations made in Omaha demand two hole cards and three community cards, meaning that you must choose two of the four cards you have in your hand. Therefore, you should choose carefully.
There are several variations of Omaha Poker, and they are usually divided according to the type of betting and the pot size. The most popular type of this game is Pot Limit Omaha. In this version, the maximum amount players can bet is the total sum of the chips found in the pot.
Another popular type of Omaha Poker is Fixed Limit,where specific limitations are set on the value of the pot and the bets that can be placed. Contrary to the Fixed Limit, there is also No Limit Omaha where, as the name suggests, no limitations are placed on the pot and how much you can bet, so it can be quite expensive to play this version.
How to Play Omaha Poker

Before the start of each hand in Omaha Poker, players need to put out a small stake called a blind. Depending on the size of the blind, we have different types of Omaha. With Pot Limit and No Limit Omaha, we have small and big blinds, where the player directly to the left of the dealer puts out the small blind, whereas the player to the left of the small blind puts out the big blind.
In both Pot Limit and No Limit games, the big blind is usually twice the size of the small blind, so if the small blind is $1, the big blind will be $2. However, in Fixed Limit Omaha poker games, the small and the big blind are the same.
Now it is time for the players to be dealt four hole cards face down. Once the last card is dealt, the first betting round ensues, and that one is called Pre-Flop.
Pre-Flop
After all the players have seen their cards, they now have the option to either call or raise their hand or fold. The minimum and maximum bets differ according to the type of Omaha. In Pot Limit Omaha and No Limit Omaha, the minimum bet or call is the size of the big blind, while the maximum bet or raise is the size of the pot and the size of your stack of chips on the table, respectively.
In Fixed Limit Omaha, the betting happens in a predetermined structured way. On Pre-Flop, all calls/bets and raises equal the amount of the big blind. The action occurs clockwise from the big blind and continues until all active players have placed their bets.
Flop
The Flop represents the first three cards dealt on the board. These are dealt face up and are the first of the five community cards. Now, another round of betting ensues. As previously stated, the call in Pot Limit and No Limit Omaha corresponds to the amount of the big blind, while the minimum raise must be at least as much as the previous call or raise in the same round. The maximum raise is the size of the pot and all the chips you have, respectively. In Fixed Limit Omaha, the calls and raises in this round are the same as big blinds.
The Turn

Once the betting for The Flop round is completed, the fourth community card, or The Turn, is dealt and another round of betting takes place. In Pot Limit and No Limit Omaha games, the betting is as in the previous round, whereas in Fixed Limit the size of all calls and raises doubles.
The River
The River is the fifth and the last community card dealt, after which the final round of betting ensues. This round has the same mode of betting as the previous round for all types of Omaha Poker.
Showdown
Showdown is the final act of the game where the player with the best hand wins the pot. If two or more players have identical winning hands, the pot is equally divided among them.
Omaha Poker Variations
One of the most successful variations of Omaha Poker that is usually played as a fixed limit edition is Omaha Hi-Low Split or Omaha/8. In this version, each player can aim for the best high hand and/or the best low hand. The pot is split between the high and low hands. The low hand implies that the player can play with five unpaired cards at or below eight, while the high hand is counted as usual. Aces are considered low in forming the low hand.
For the possibility of a low hand, there must be at least three cards of differing ranks from eight and below on the board. The general statistics say that around 60% of the time a low hand is possible. The cards the player uses for the high hand have zero effect on the low hand, and the player can use the same or different ones, or the combination thereof.
Omaha/8 has been known to appear in forms that require a nine- or seven-low qualifier and even five cards dealt as hole cards, but these instances are few and far between.
Speaking of five hole cards leads us to yet another popular variety called Five Card Omaha. As the name suggests, Five Card Omaha is a regular Omaha poker game but with a difference that states that each player will receive five hole cards instead of four. However, you still have to combine two hole cards with three community cards, but now you have an extra card to choose from and thus increased chances of success.
